There is a version of you that existed before the world told you who to be.
Before the criticism. Before the rejection. Before you learned that love came with conditions — or sometimes didn’t come at all.
That version of you didn’t disappear. She got pushed into the dark. And she has been running your life — and your relationships — ever since.
This is the foundation of Shadow Parts work. And after more than two decades of working with high achieving women, I believe it is the most powerful and least understood pathway to lasting love available today.
What Is a Shadow Part?
The concept of the shadow was first identified by the Swiss psychologist Carl Jung. But in my work, I have come to understand it in a very specific and practical way.
When a child experiences an emotional wound — being ignored, criticised, rejected, or made to feel unsafe — something happens in the psyche. A part of her fragments. It carries the pain and unmet needs of that moment and gets buried beneath the surface of everyday life.
But the psyche is intelligent. It doesn’t leave that wounded part unprotected.
Another part rises up to make sure that pain never happens again. This is the protective part — and in high achieving women, it almost always looks the same:
The perfectionist. The fiercely independent one. The woman who needs no one, controls everything, and would rather walk away than risk being hurt.
She is not a flaw. She was a survival strategy.
But she is running your relationships. And she is keeping love at a distance.
The Pattern I See in Almost Every Successful Woman Over 50
In more than two decades of working with brilliant, accomplished women, the most common and most damaging Shadow Part I encounter is this:
A deep programme of self judgment and self criticism — and the belief that she is never quite enough.
On the outside, she is extraordinary. Successful career. Financial independence. Social confidence. The woman who holds everything together.
On the inside, there is a quiet but relentless voice that scrutinises every choice, criticises every perceived flaw, and projects that same harsh judgment onto the men who get close to her.
She attracts partners she can control — often emotionally unavailable, or not quite right — because deep down, a truly equal, loving partner feels unsafe. Unfamiliar. Too vulnerable.
She gets frustrated. Bored. Critical. And the relationship ends.
And she tells herself it’s because she hasn’t found the right person yet.
But the pattern isn’t about finding the right person. It’s about becoming available to one.
What Changes After Shadow Parts Healing
When enough Shadow Parts are transformed — and in my experience this can begin to shift within just one or two dedicated sessions — something remarkable happens.
It is not gradual. It is not subtle.
It is like a jigsaw puzzle where all the pieces finally come together.
Women describe it as feeling, for the first time, like themselves. A calm, energised, aligned sense of who they actually are — beneath all the achieving, the protecting, and the performing.
In relationships, the change is immediate and visible:
Instead of rushing in or pushing away, they become genuinely curious about the other person. They take time. They enjoy the process. They allow things to evolve.
They value themselves enough to choose a partner who is aligned with their values — someone they admire and respect, who adds to their life rather than depleting it.
They feel calm. Enthusiastic. At ease in their own skin.
The critical voice quiets. And in its place — for perhaps the first time — there is self acceptance. Real self acceptance. Not the performed kind.
My Own Shattered Glass
I know this territory not just as a practitioner — but as a woman who lived it.
Before my own Shadow Parts healing, I can only describe my inner world as shattered glass. I didn’t know who I truly was. I kept abandoning myself — in relationships, in life, in the quiet moments when nobody was watching.
I was a rescuer. I attracted emotionally fragile men because I was emotionally fragile. I defined myself entirely by what I knew, what I could do, what I could offer.
After the work, something shifted that I had no words for at the time.
The judgment disappeared. The criticism — of myself and others — simply lifted.
For the first time, I felt my own authentic identity. I knew what I deserved. I stopped being drawn to what was familiar and started being available to what was actually right.
A good relationship. A good business. A good life. All of it became — for the first time — not just possible, but available.
That is what I want for every woman who finds her way to this work.
Is Shadow Parts Work Right For You?
If you recognise yourself in any of this — the perfectionism, the self criticism, the pattern of almost-right relationships that never quite last — Shadow Parts healing may be the missing piece you have been searching for.
It is not talk therapy. You will not spend years revisiting the past.
It is precise, elegant, and lasting.
And it begins with a single conversation.
